Kula’s council appointment draws brickbats

By SYLVIA LOOI

IPOH: The appointment of Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran as city councillor has drawn flak from various quarters.

Ipoh Ratepayers Association (Irata) vice-president Victor Sankey expressed concern whether Kulasegaran could spare the time from his tight schedule as a parliamentarian to attend to local issues. (more…)

Teks Ucapan Pembahasan ADUN Teja

Tuan Yang Dipertua,

Y.A.B Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohd Nizar, Ahli-ahli Yang Berhormat sekalian,

Saya mengambil kesempatan di Dewan yang mulia ini untuk merakamkan ucapan terima kasih atas Titah Ucapan Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan sempena Pembukaan Perasmian Penggal Pertama, Dewan Undangan Negeri Kedua Belas.

Zaman Pasca Pilihanraya 308

Tuan Yang Dipertua,

(more…)

State assembly sitting has just started. The question and answer session (1.5 hour) is going on now. BN state assemblymen are dissatisfied with the speaker. They are accussing the speaker for not allowing additional questions from them. All of them are suddenly talking about “fairness”, “keadilan” etc, rare words from them.

In fact, the speaker has made it very clearly in the beginning that only two additional questions are allowed, and according to convention, the first additional question will be asked by the one who post the main question. The BN fellas are asking for third additional question, because they accused that some questions are “attacking” the previous government, and they must be given a chance to defend.

But question time is for the current government to answer. They can always incorporate their explanation in their debate text after this.

Perhaps they are not use to be opposition…

Burning midnight oil…

Last minute maintenance works are being carried out in the state assembly hall today. Tomorrow will be the first Perak assembly hall sitting since the exhilarating “political tsunami”. It is my debut sitting as well. I hope I would not embarrass my constituencies and myself ;p

Keeping my fingers crossed…

p/s: The Perak state government has spent RM18K to ensure that the whole world could monitor our sitting. Please do support ya!

Democracy belongs to the people

On 18 June 2008, the Star published a comment piece under the title “Futile to protest against petrol and diesel hikes”. I wrote a response to that article, and emailed it to the editor of the Star, with a request that it be published either as an article or a letter to editor. I have followed up with 3 emails, but as at the time of writing have not received any reply. I assume that the Star has declined to publish it. My letter/article appears below. (Yeo Yang Poh)

The People’s participation is essential in a true
Democracy

I refer to the comment piece “Futile to protest against petrol and diesel hikes” by Mr V.K. Chin, published in The Star on 18 June 2008.

The main purpose of that article, as far as I can gather, is to impress upon readers that the recent fuel price hike is due solely to external factors, and that blame should not be placed on our present Government.

PKR: We prefer a full-time Ipoh mayor

We don’t want the person to leave office to attend
Parliament all the time« DR LEE BOON CHYE

IPOH: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has set several criteria for the potential candidate who will take up the post of Ipoh mayor.

IPOH: The High Court yesterday fixed June 27 to decide on preliminary objections in an election petition challenging the victory of Teja state assemblyman Chang Li Kang.

The objections were raised by Chang, a returning officer and the Election Commission.

Judge Datuk Siti Mariah Ahmad made the decision after hearing submissions from counsel Edmund Bon and B. Shamala Devi for Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Chang and senior federal counsel Amarjeet Singh acting for the returning officer and the commission.

Barisan Nasional’s Yew Sau Kham, the candidate for Teja state seat, last month filed a petition challenging the election result stating that Chang, the returning officer as well as the commission had not complied with election laws.

After gathering opinions from you, I have finally submitted my questions. I am sorry that I could not accommodate all the suggested questions, due to the limitation on numbers of questions. However, I believe most of the important issues have been touched by Pakatan Rakyat ADUN.

YB Yee (Pokok Assam) is going to ask questions on the Belum building (a state government building-turned-debris “yang belum selesai”) , while YB Chan Ming Kai will ask questions on communication transmitters.

FYI, I am going to table a motion to condemn the draconian ISA in the Dewan.

My questions are as following: (more…)

The first sitting of the Perak State Assembly is scheduled on 24 June. I received an email from SUK reminding us to put in questions before 6 June. As provided by the Standing Order, we are only allowed to submit not more than 3 oral questions and 5 written questions.

Should you have any concern, please present it over here (before 3 June). I am more than willing to bring it to the 1st session of the 12th Perak State Assembly. If your concerns are picked, it would be answered by relevant EXCO during the sitting (hopefully).

p/s: Priority will be given to Perakians and Teja voters ;p
